To Pee or Not To Pee

February 2003
On Saturday four of us headed up to the Jefferson NH area where we were going to try out a few new trails that were recommended to us. The first trail we went to was overloaded with snowmobilers so we left and headed for the 2nd trail, a little further north. We accidently drove right past the place where we were supposed to park and were on a road that was too narrow for Whatleigh (whom I was riding with) to turn her mega-huge truck around on, so we pulled into a rather large and square driveway of a house that appeared to be closed up for the winter. The driveway had been plowed during earlier storms but not recent ones, evidenced by the few inches of snow on the driveway. There were a few tire tracks that showed people had turned around in there before, but no vehicles were parked there nor were there any other signs of life in or around the house.

After we turned around we had the 2 trucks side by side in the driveway with the windows rolled down while we debated whether this trail was going to be any less populated by snowmachines or not. I had to pee really really badly, and there were obviously no bathrooms nearby nor were there going to be if we decided to use this trail...as a musher spending lots of time in the woods and other places where porta-potties and bathrooms are not usually available, I've learned to just pee behind snowbanks and bushes a lot. Now this driveway was completely open: no bushes, trees, or snowbanks near enough to climb behind. But I figured since nobody was around and there were no neighboring houses it'd be fine to just go behind Whatleigh's big truck and drop my drawers. So I did. My back was now to the house, and just as I'm about to pee I hear a noise behind me. I turn to look and there's a woman standing in the doorway of the house yelling something to me. I pulled up my pants fast, ran and threw myself into the truck and said "Go go go, drive!!!"

It was completely embarrassing but funny too...we were all laughing our asses off about it for the rest of the day! :P Guess that'll teach me to stick to bushes and snowbanks from now on, huh?
