"Lightning" turned out to be an appropriate name for this girl because she's fast and full of energy. She's a very neat looking siberian and was one of my faves
from her litter from birth.
Lightning reminds me a lot of her half-sister Magik... particularly in harness. From the first time
she was hooked up this spring she's acted like a little pro , slamming in harness to keep going even when we finish the runs.
Watching her run the fall of her yearling season in harness I often wondered, "Will she be a great leader like her parents?" She seemed to have the focus, the drive and the speed for it.
In mid-January, pulling
my hair out in frustration at the fact that all my females were in season and nobody wanted to lead except Anya, I decided to put Lightning up front with Anya and see what she could do.
And oh boy, is she EVER a fantastic leader! That first day in lead she led the team on an entire 40 mile run like she'd been doing it for years. No hesitation, full of confidence, executing commands like she'd been
studying up the past 4 months just waiting for her chance to take charge. I held back on using her in lead too much this past season due to
her age, but every time I put her up front she led with focus, speed, drive. She is the only dog other than Anya that can keep pace with Tristan in lead, and despite their height difference she can match her
father stride for stride, and they make a beautiful lead pair as their gaits are almost identical.
I am so excited at the thought of having another "Tristan" in his daughter Lightning, and am so grateful to Ingrid Bower of Thesewoods Siberians for leasing me Northome's Maja to do this wonderful litter!
